Dater Rater is an iOS mobile app that reimagines modern dating and friendship with a unique twist — users can connect based on shared interests and later rate their real-life experiences. The platform aims to make social matching more transparent, accountable, and fun.

This project involved the development of a native iOS app, alongside a comprehensive admin portal for platform management, moderation, and analytics.

Challenges & Solutions

Multi-Purpose Matching Flow

To support different social goals within the same platform:

Created distinct flows for users looking to Find Dates, Find Friends, or access Tutorials & Training.
Developed intuitive UI components to guide users through onboarding and help them match based on purpose and preferences.

Swipe-Based Discovery & Profile System

To deliver an engaging and modern experience:

Built a swipe interface with profile cards showing age, distance, interests, and photos.
Added a profile editing system with interest tagging and real-time updates.

Post-Date Ratings & Accountability

To improve the quality of user experiences:

Implemented a “ghosting” and “rating” system after dates, allowing users to reflect on and share how the interaction went.
Tracked and displayed stats like dates, ghosts, and matches in user profiles for transparency.

In-App Messaging System

To enable safe and seamless communication:

Integrated one-to-one chat messaging within the app, allowing matched users to communicate directly.
Included message indicators and an archive system for better user control.

Results

Conor’s an exceptionally fast developer who knows how to make an app do anything you want it to do. The last iOS developer we used was painfully slow, taking weeks between revisions. Conor gets updates to you in days at the latest, often even the same day. The only thing that made this project take longer were things on our end: some challenges getting our Apple Developer account set up + the length of time it took us to bug check / app review. The speed he works at and his skill at development, coupled with pretty reasonable rates compared to others we talked with, are quite tough to beat. Combine that with the fact that it seems like he’s almost always online and I wonder how he does it. Much recommended!
